"A political explanation of the interior division of the mediate class is important. Social discontent can be expressed in different languages. If there is, for example, discontent about migration or fear of women's mobility, this does not automatically mean that there is simply a cultural atavism of racism or sexism in society," says Brazilian populist investigator Sergio Costa.
