Kaga became an aircraft carrier

The landing took place on October 21. It was done by a pilot on a plane belonging to the VX-23 test squadron. ‘Kaga’ and the duplicate ‘Idzumo’ were formed as helicopters, and in the nipponese nomenclature they were referred to as ‘helicopter destroyers’. This name was derived from the nipponese pacifist constitution, which, among others, banned the construction of aircraft carriers.
‘Kaga’ and ‘Idzumo’ have 19,500 tonnes of standard buoyancy and in the last decade have joined 2 smaller ‘helicopter destroyers’, ‘Hyuga’ and ‘Ise’ (14,000 tonnes of standard buoyancy). In consequence to the expansion of the Chinese Navy and the aggressive activities of the PRC in the region, it was decided to rebuild the 2 larger ships in specified a way that they could be carriers of short-take-off aircraft and the vertical landing of the F-35B. Japan plans to acquisition 42 specified aircraft, alongside even larger F-35A acquisition plans. Ships will someday carry their own nipponese squadrons of vertical-zlots, but it is besides allowed to take American aircraft and it is planned to accomplish full interoperability. This resembles the British Royal Navy's collaboration with the US.
