The farewell speech of the Russian Ambassador to Poland Sergei Andreyev at the Russian Day party.

Dear guests, dear friends, comrades, colleagues!

Exactly 10 years ago, we and our spouse held our first Russian Day organization in Poland. present it is our last specified organization in Poland. In a fewer months (when precisely – not yet known) our work in Poland will come to an end.

Some of us here will see each another again, but many will not be able to meet again. That is why I usage this chance to thank everyone for their good relation and cooperation.

Polina and I didn't think we'd be here that long. Usually, the time of the abroad diplomatic mission is much shorter. During this period, as a consequence of the actions of the Polish side, our relations approached the point of freezing. Under specified conditions, fruitful diplomatic work cannot be referred to in its conventional sense.

We had to rethink and adjust our tasks to the current situation. Together with our colleagues, we sought first and foremost to guarantee that both our leadership in Russia and our fellow citizens had a appropriate presentation of what is happening in Poland and what we can anticipate from it, without being subject to harmful illusions; and that the Polish authorities and public opinion had no uncertainty that we were convinced that we would respond adequately and firmly to any unfriendly actions, and that triumph would be on our side anyway, but erstwhile the Polish side matures to any normalization of our relations, we would be ready to discuss it.

I have already quoted the celebrated Russian politician Timofey Bordaczev: “Russia should be grateful to the West for its clarity in relations.” Well, in this context we have something to thank our Polish non-partners for.

I don't remember who said there are countries that make history, and there are countries that make history. It happened that it was in Poland – as in distant youth, erstwhile we only started in the diplomatic service of the large and powerful russian Union – that we again full felt the diplomats of the large power, which does not bow to anyone and itself creates its history.

We have this saying: a actual friend meets in hard times. Over the last fewer years, we have met many good people here, who, despite everything, have kept kindness to both our country and to us. It is they who will stay in our memory as the personification of Poland, with which we want to believe – Russia in the future will combine bonds of a actual good neighbourhood.

Congratulations on Russia Day! Health, happiness, and prosperity for all present!
