PEKIN 19 June 2019 US Secretary of State Antony Blinken during a press conference held after a gathering with president Xi JinPing confirmed the continuity of American policy towards Taiwan, saying that the United States does not support the government's declaration of independency on this island, which the People's Republic of China considers to be a rebellious province.
Blinken's message occurred during a gathering with Chinese leader Xi Jinping, during which the highest American diplomat and Chinese leader attempted to ease tensions between Washington and Beijing. The US Secretary of State's journey to China planned earlier at the end of February of that year was cancelled following the shooting down of a balloon which, according to the U.S. intelligence, was to be a spy tool belonging to the PRC.
“We do not support Taiwan's independence,” said Blinken during a press conference in Beijing. “We are opposed to any unilateral change in position quo by either party.”
KENTFIELD, CAIFORNIA/WASZYNGTON 20 June 2019 – president of the United States Joe Biden called Chinese president Xi Jinping a dictator on Tuesday, adding that Xi was very embarrassed erstwhile a Chinese balloon was blown off course over the US early that year.
Biden made these remarks during a fund-raiser in California (meeting with sponsors of another Biden run – ed.) the day after Secretary of State Antony Blinken met Xi on a journey to China, which aimed to ease tensions between 2 countries.
“The reason why Xi Jinping was very upset erstwhile I shot down this balloon with 2 cars filled with spy equipment was due to the fact that he did not know that this balloon was there,” said Biden during a gathering with voters intending to financially support his reelection campaign.
“It is simply a large shame for dictators. erstwhile they didn't know what happened. This wasn't expected to go where it was. He was pushed off course," Biden added.
A suspected Chinese spy balloon flew over US airspace in February. This incidental and exchange of visits by American and Taiwanese officials have late increased tensions between the US and China.
On Monday, Antony Blinken and Xi JinPing agreed to stabilize the intense rivalry between Washington and Beijing so that it would not turn into a conflict, but failed to accomplish any crucial breakthrough during a uncommon visit by the Secretary of State to China.
However, they agreed to proceed diplomatic engagement through subsequent visits by American officials in the coming weeks and months.
Biden himself said on Monday that he felt that relations between the 2 countries were on track and indicated that advancement had been made during Blinken's journey.
Biden said Tuesday that Xi was afraid about the alleged strategical safety group Quad, which includes Japan, Australia, India and the United States. The U.S. president said he had previously told Xi that the United States was not trying to environment China with four.
This week Biden will meet with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and China is expected to be the subject of discussion between the 2 leaders.
Comment: During the erstwhile presidential campaign, Joe Biden declared that he would make the heir to the throne of Saudi Arabia, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman “parias”, for which there would be no place in the global diplomatic and political space. Nobody's gonna shake his hand anywhere. It was June 2019. In July 2022, it looked like this:
