NEW YORK- JetBlue (B6) has expanded its partnership with Japan Airlines (JL), allowing TrueBlue members to redeem points for Japan Airlines-operated flights directly on its website. This marks JetBlue’s first redemption partnership with an East Asian carrier.
The collaboration enhances JetBlue’s loyalty program by offering members access to Japan Airlines’ service to destinations across Japan and East Asia, including Tokyo Haneda (HND), Osaka (KIX), Okinawa (OKA), and Hokkaido’s New Chitose Airport (CTS).

JetBlue Redemption Miles with Japan Airlines
This redemption expansion represents a significant evolution in JetBlue’s loyalty strategy, offering TrueBlue members unprecedented access to Japan Airlines’ extensive route network.
Members can now use their accumulated points to book flights on one of Asia’s most respected carriers, known for its exceptional service standards and premium cabin offerings.
The integration creates a seamless booking experience, as members can complete their Japan Airlines redemptions directly through JetBlue’s familiar website interface.
For travelers based in the United States, this partnership transforms their loyalty currency into a more versatile tool for international exploration.
Points that previously could only access destinations within JetBlue’s network now unlock journeys to Japan’s major cities and beyond. Business travelers with significant point balances gain new high-value redemption options, while leisure travelers looking to experience Japan’s cultural and natural attractions can leverage their existing loyalty investment.

Reciprocal Benefits for Both Airlines’ Members
The partnership offers meaningful advantages for members of both loyalty programs.
Japan Airlines Mileage Bank members will reciprocally gain redemption access to JetBlue’s comprehensive network spanning Latin America, the Caribbean, Canada, and numerous destinations along the U.S. East Coast. This creates natural extensions to Japan Airlines’ existing direct services to New York (JFK) and Boston (BOS).
Edward Pouthier, Vice President of Loyalty and Personalization at JetBlue, emphasized the company’s commitment to expanding redemption options, stating that this partnership “opens the door to more destinations for our customers to travel where they want, how they want.”
This philosophy aligns with JetBlue’s broader strategy of enhancing customer choice and loyalty program value through strategic partnerships rather than solely through organic network growth.
East Asian Market Access
The timing of this partnership expansion comes as interest in Japan as a destination continues to grow among American travelers.
With Japan fully reopened for tourism following pandemic restrictions, the ability to use TrueBlue points provides JetBlue customers with a valuable new pathway to access this market.
For Japan Airlines, the arrangement strengthens its competitive position in the trans-Pacific market by effectively extending its network reach beyond its direct U.S. gateways.
Yasushi Omori, Executive Officer and Senior Vice President of Mileage and Lifestyle Business at Japan Airlines, highlighted this benefit, noting that “this partnership will enable JAL to enhance its network beyond New York and Boston, where direct flights from Japan are available.”

11 Routes by JAL
Japan Airlines currently operates 11 routes connecting Japan with the continental United States.
From Tokyo’s Haneda Airport, JAL flies to Chicago O’Hare, Dallas Fort Worth, Los Angeles, New York JFK, and San Francisco.
From Tokyo’s Narita International Airport, the airline serves Boston Logan, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Seattle-Tacoma, and San Diego. Additionally, JAL operates services from Osaka’s Kansai International Airport to Los Angeles and connects Honolulu with four Japanese airports.
Travelers can accumulate TrueBlue points through multiple channels. Chase Ultimate Rewards offers the most favorable transfer ratio at 1:1. Chase is currently promoting a significant welcome bonus of 100,000 points for new Chase Sapphire Preferred Card applicants who spend $5,000 within the first three months, with a $95 annual fee, TPG reported.
Other transfer options include Citi ThankYou Rewards (1:1 ratio for select cardholders, including Citi Prestige and Strata users, 5:4 ratio for others), and American Express Membership Rewards and Capital One miles (both at a 5:3 ratio).
While Japan Airlines represents JetBlue’s first East Asian redemption partner, TrueBlue members can also redeem points with Qatar Airways, Etihad Airways, Icelandair, and TAP Air Portugal.
The expanded partnership works both ways, as Japan Airlines Mileage Bank members can now redeem their miles for select JetBlue flights, including routes to Latin America, the Caribbean, Canada, and the U.S. East Coast.
