Intervention by Michał Waver and Witold Tumanowicz, Ministry of Infrastructure, 15 November 2023.
Michał Wawer:
– On 6 November the strike of carriers on the Polish-Ukrainian border began. Representatives of the transport manufacture defend day and night on the border of Polish national interest, economy against unfair competition from Ukraine. Ministers of the writing government, during which time they play in the parliament hall occupying the speakers outside the queue. And this is their contribution to defending Polish national interest and Polish democracy.
That is why we are here present for parliamentary intervention. We came to the Ministry of Infrastructure to ask What do ministers, deputy ministers and officials of the Ministry of Infrastructure do?Because we do not see them on the Polish-Ukrainian border. We don't see them at border crossing points. We do not see them in negotiations with the Ukrainian side. Even representatives of the European Union participate in negotiations. And after Polish representatives of the Polish government neither the viewer nor the speaker.
– Transport manufacture accounts for 6% of Polish GDP. Millions of jobs. 1PLN 6 billion paid in taxes to the Polish budget year of the year.
If this manufacture is brought to a decline, the equivalent of the amount of, for example, 2/3 of the money allocated next year for the acquisition of fresh weapons for the Polish military will evaporate from the Polish budget, from the Polish national economy. We can't let that happen. We cannot justify specified harm in the Polish economy, what the Law and Justice Government is doing, that this is in the name of assistance to Ukraine.
Let's aid Ukraine. It's very noble. Let us support their military effort, but this cannot be done at the expense of Polish entrepreneurs, employees and solvency of the Polish budget. ...
We are in a situation where Ukraine has better conditions for participation in the European Union than any another EU country. Let's be aware of that. The Ukrainian transport sector is presently operating under conditions that Polish entrepreneurs can only dream about. They have all the powers resulting from belonging to the European Union and no obligationsfor this reason.
Ukrainian carriers do not gotta comply with method standards, legal requirements, financial requirements that Polish carriers must meet. At a time erstwhile Ukrainian carriers are admitted to the EU marketplace on unlimited conditions, the Polish transport manufacture simply has no chance. If it is destroyed now, then, erstwhile the war in Ukraine is over, this manufacture will no longer rebuild. This sector will either be in the hands of Ukrainian drivers or taken over by Western European companies. You can't let that happen.
Let us aid Ukraine but with reason, not at all costs. Not at the price of Polish unemployment, Polish economical crisis, earned by 1 million Polish transport workers.
-We support constantly Polish carriers. We go to the border. And present we are entering the Ministry of Infrastructure, which should yet do something about it.
