In March 1952 Jelczańskie Automobile Plant was founded — an enterprise initially engaged in the repair and construction of bodies of military cars and trucks, from which the current production plant of JELCZ Sp. z o.o., operating in Jelczu-Laskowice (Oława County) originates. The erstwhile JZS was 1 of the pillars of the Polish automotive manufacture in the times of the People's Republic of Poland, alongside the “Star” Truck mill in Starachowice or the Sanocka Bus mill “Autosan” in Sanok. Today, the JELCZ brand is associated primarily with military trucks, which are the basic means of transport and carrier of specialized equipment and weapons systems of the Polish Armed Forces.
