Assessing the situation is all the more hard due to the fact that almost everyone is lying. For example, those who not so long ago defended themselves against Putin's irritation are now standing firmly behind Ukraine and are ready to send troops there to the demarcation line. Troops that Putin is certain to fire upon, if only to test (and ridicule) the readiness and cohesion of the West. It doesn't look good.
