Restoration of the memories of Luciana Frassati (1902-2007), an Italian author and poet, fascinated by Poland, wife of Jan Gawronski. Before the war she met Bolesław Piasecki, whom she was fascinated with. erstwhile Piasecki was arrested by the Germans on 17 November 1939, she made efforts to release him, utilizing the aid of the Italian embassy and Benito Mussolini himself. We did it. After the war Piasecki corresponded with Frassati, his handwritten letters to her remained (mainly from the 1960s). Here is simply a fragment of the gathering with Piasecki, which she visited in the Rakowiecka prison in late 1939:
“The door opened abruptly and Piasecki, led by a guard, appeared. Happy, I ran to him with relief, but I stopped immediately with his appearance: I hadn't seen him for months; the only thing left in him was this certain sight, calmness and calmness, and a joyful speech of voice. The prison wiped him out physically: the skinny, shaved head, covered only with a coat, which he was wearing at the time of his arrest and which now seemed to belong to individual much bigger, was a depressing impression.
He admitted to suffering from cold, but it was his only complaint. Throughout our conversation he was almost cheerful, so that for a minute we almost forgot where we were. At 1 point we realized that the defender was listening to our conversation; but as shortly as we turned around, this one, with the indifferent look on his face, left the room, leaving us alone. At that time, I could assure Bolesław that we were doing everything we could to get him out of this terrible place: he answered with emotion that I had arrived just in time due to the fact that on the same day he was appointed to be transferred to another prison. With tears in his eyes he then asked me about his fiancée, Halina. The memory of his beloved reminded him of a happy life that he erstwhile had and which, for the first time, seemed possible to him. erstwhile we said goodbye, he confidently shook my hand, and I left with his attitude.
That same afternoon I went back to Meisinger, who, having no thought of my visit to Rakowiecka, assured me that he would personally deal with Piasecki’s case.”.
