How did the extremist right turn so strong?

Artificially produced crises systematically recalibrate what societies consider normal. They do this by creating political environments in which democratic regression occurs without noticeable dramatic changes, standards erstwhile considered inviolable slide in all directions, and meters that defined acceptable behaviour are contested.
