Track the unmanned man utilizing a peculiar module installed on the helmet, activate the laser beam that will destruct the drone camera and... calmly wait for it to crash – this is how the Syland strategy works, a novelty developed by the Air Force method Institute. The drone laser control strategy is presented at the global Defence manufacture Salon.
– FPV drones can be fought by firing cannons or shotguns. We decided to go another way and make a strategy that would blind them – says Jerzy Łukasiewicz from Air Force method Institute in Warsaw. That's how Syland was made.
The strategy consists of 3 elements. Its heart is an optoelectronic head equipped with a camera assembly – 2 thermal and 1 daylight. They can detect a drone approaching. “The head allows for effective operation both day and night”, Łukasiewicz explains.
The image recorded by it travels to a peculiar module built into the helmet. The soldier, wearing it, has a viewfinder in his eyes. The helmet itself besides has a spatial orientation device. By moving his head, Sylanda's operator can track and track the unmanned aircraft and at the right time press the button on the control panel. The head then emits a laser beam that is able to destruct a drone camera in a fraction of a second.
– The drone is blinded and its operator loses his orientation in the field. In specified a situation, he finds it hard to carry out an attack, reconnaissance, and even hard to return with a drone to the launch site. The most likely script is to hit the ground or crash on any obstacle – Łukasiewicz points out. The beam scope is 1 km.
Siland is so functional that even in the event of a chopper strategy failure, a soldier can follow the drone, utilizing a joystick on the control panel. The strategy is powered by a battery with a capacity corresponding to the car's battery. That's adequate for half an hr of continuous head work. Of course, batteries can be replaced and recharged.
– In the assumption, Syland is the last line of defence against enemy drones. It can be activated, for example, at the location of radio station or staff – Łukasiewicz explains. The strategy has already been tested. This is the first specified solution in Poland, although akin ones are besides proposed by companies from respective another countries.
