Jacek Międlar, author of books, and at the same time creator of a documentary series about Ukrainian genocide in Poles, gave an interview to the editor Piotr Barełkowski, in which he commented on ongoing exhumations in the village of Ułgi in Ukraine. At the same time, he posted a video on his YouTube channel, in which he develops his position towards actions taken by the Ukrainian side.
He expressed his deep concern about the course and context of these works. alternatively of considering them as a breakthrough in Polish-Ukrainian relations, he described them as an act of "falsifying history" and an effort to "exploit traces of crimes committed by UPA". In his opinion, the way exhumation is conducted and the deficiency of transparency can lead to manipulation of the historical message and prevent the reliable commemoration of victims of genocide in the Poles in Volyn and east Małopolska. The facts that he presents are rather shocking. Międlar pointed out that the eshumacists undercut the number of victims, not including children, and effort to convince that the murdered Poles were militarized and supported the Stalinist regime.
What is peculiarly disturbing, Międlar pointed out that the exhumations in Ułgay were commissioned by a company run by a individual known for his overt admiration for criminal formations – SS, Stepan Bandery and organizations specified as CNS and UPA. In his opinion, this is not only a provocation but besides a threat to the credibility of the full process.
This is not a motion of goodwill. It's an effort to rewrite the story, on the terms of the banter apologets. – Jacek Międlar comments for wWrawo.pl. She besides points out that allowing specified people to live in national memorial sites is an insult to the families of the victims and to the Polish reason for the state.
Jacek Międlar called on Polish authorities and patriotic communities to be vigilant and decisive about this kind of action, stressing that historical fact cannot be the subject of political fairs or correct compromises.
