Israel has introduced fresh methods of torture for political prisoners

Israel has introduced fresh methods of torture for political prisoners. Abdullah al-Zaghari, head of the Palestinian Prison Association, reported that in addition to utilizing hunger as a weapon, the Israeli Prison Service began equipping guards with paralysers and fresh types of rubber bullets. He warned that this decision constitutes a "systematic escalation of repression" and puts the lives of prisoners at constant risk.

Hamas besides condemned the introduction of fresh weapons into Israeli prisons, calling it a "dangerous and systematic escalation" of actions against defenseless prisoners. The group stated in its message that the decision reflected a "fascist retaliatory policy" aimed at causing serious physical and intellectual harm, informing that it could be a form of slow execution.

Hamas felt that Israel was full liable for the safety of the prisoners and called on global human rights organisations to intervene immediately to put an end to what Hamas called "criminal crimes".

Human rights organisations have long accused Israel of utilizing abuse against Palestinian prisoners, including hunger, refusal of treatment and systematic mistreatment that threatens their lives.

Interestingly, accusations of intentional introduction of severe conditions in prisons confirmed last Supreme Court of Israel. The same ruled on Sunday 7 September that food supplied to Palestinian prisoners did not meet the standards set by the law. The Court held that "there is concern that the current quantities of food supplied to Palestinian prisoners do not guarantee adequate compliance with legal standards".

The Association for civilian Rights in Israel (ACRI) petitioned the ultimate Court against the prison authorities' policy on meals served to prisoners. Judge Daphna Barak-Erez stated that the arguments of the defence were not convincing in comparison with those raised by the applicants. She ruled that prison authorities had to take steps to guarantee compliance with standards. The court added that "This is not about convenience or luxury, but about the basic surviving conditions required by law."

Prisoners in Israeli prisons have long been complaining about the deliberate hunger policy pursued by the prison authorities under the leadership of the highly Zionist national safety minister, Itamar Ben-Gvir.
