Since Sunday, Israel has been conducting intense fire in Lebanon. The attacks included Beirut, the capital of the country, and its confederate suburbs. According to information provided by the Lebanese authorities, at least 52 people were killed as a consequence of raids and 154 were injured.
Israeli Defence Forces reported that only on Sunday and Monday were struck at more than 70 targets in Lebanon's territory. The Israeli authorities stress that the operation is the consequence to the earlier northern fire Israel rockets launched by the Shiite Hezbollah organization, operating in confederate Lebanon and supported by Iran.
In consequence to the escalation on Monday before noon, the government in Beirut announced an immediate ban on Hezbollah's activities in the country. The decision is intended to effort to reduce tensions and avoid further involving Lebanon in regional conflict.
"No substance who is behind this, firing missiles from confederate Lebanon is an irresponsible act and a fishy that threatens the safety of Lebanon and gives Israel an excuse to proceed the attacks. We will not let the country to be drawn into fresh conflicts and we will take all essential steps to halt the perpetrators and defend the Lebanese," said Prime Minister Nawaf Salam on platform X.
On Tuesday morning, Israeli attacks continued. The rockets fell primarily on the confederate areas of Beirut, where, according to Israeli intelligence, there are key command centers and infrastructure of Hezbollah.
The current escalation is interpreted by analysts as part of a wider regional strategy of Tehran, frequently referred to as a substitute war. Tehran uses allied armed groups in various parts of the mediate East — from Yemen to Lebanon — to put military force on its opponents. In this strategy, Hezbollah plays a peculiarly crucial function as it acts straight at the Israeli border.
The situation is complicated by the weakness of the Lebanese state itself. Lebanon has been in a deep economical crisis, political paralysis and the collapse of the financial strategy for respective years, which importantly limits the authorities' ability to control safety in the country.
According to the Associated Press, further Israeli raids have already led to massive displacement of the population from areas under Hezbollah influence. In practice, the Lebanese state is present in a situation where it becomes a hostage to the rivalry between Israel and Iran.
So far, there's small sign of a fast extinction. Quoted by Al Jazeer, a typical of Hezbollah Mahmoud Qmati stated on Tuesday that “Israel wanted an open war, so let there be a war”, suggesting that tension in the region might increase further.
Comment: Current developments in the mediate East clearly confirm that Israel is trying to increase its sphere of influence at all costs. First the Gaza Strip, present Iran and Lebanon, and tomorrow... Let everyone answer that.
