Lebanon declares its readiness to negociate with Israel to end the ongoing conflict," said president Joseph Aoun. As he pointed out, talks could only start if Israel stopped attacks on the territory of Lebanon. However, the Israeli authorities have not yet received signs of support for this solution, and military action against Hezbollah is continuing.
In an interview with the BBC, the President's spokesperson stated that Lebanon is open to dialogue, but the prerequisite remains the completion of Israeli military operations.
At an online gathering with high-ranking representatives on Monday, the European Union Aoun presented a proposal for "permanent safety and stableness arrangements at the border". The plan includes comprehensive solutions to lead to a de-escalation of the conflict, although it has not yet received a public consequence from Israel.
Lebanon's four-point plan
The proposal put forward by the president includes 4 key elements. The most crucial of these is simply a full ceasefire which would be combined with the disarmament of Hezbollah and global support for the Lebanese armed forces. The aim would be to enable the authorities in Beirut to regain control of areas peculiarly affected by tensions.
