"Limitation or reform? Public media in Poland. Current position and prospects". Second day of technological conference on CISiD. During the 3rd panel of this event, led by Prof. UAM, Dr. Jędrzej Skrzypczak, entitled "Can public media be denied? Public media as a subject of research" was discussed the question of the “level” of political neutrality of Polish media and the anticipation of its possible increase.

As Prof. hab. stated at the very beginning of the conference. Janusz Adamowski from the University of Warsaw, compared to the situation in another countries specified as Scandinavian countries, Germany or the Netherlands, our media is coming out “bad”. He besides added that in Poland, public media no longer fulfil this function, which should be "painted".

Prof. Stanislaw Jędrzejewski from the Leon Kozmiński Academy in Warsaw pointed out, among another things, the fact that the public media audience is decreasing today, and the deficiency of open debate on policy towards public media and their evolution. It is besides crucial to change, to which weight is seldom attached, namely technological transformations – changing the function of the media erstwhile they enter the network, the issue of digitisation.

Prof. Jacek Sobczak of the Academy of economical and Humanities in Warsaw emphasized that there is no media concept – there are only social media. Prof. UW Dr. Tadeusz Kowalski from the University of Warsaw, who is besides a associate of the National Broadcasting and tv Council, explained that any things are not defined.

On the question of the anticipation of repelling the media Prof. Dr. hab. Sobczak replied that the laws could include “safers”, but they could besides be written out. Dr. Ksenia Kakareko from the University of Warsaw has given her judgement that there is no good answer to this question, and the authority received is very hard to defy completely. Nor should we anticipate a 100% change in the ruling group. Prof. hab. Adamowski stated that we have always dealt with a policy in the media sphere, looking at the history, so eliminating political customs in public media in Poland will not be easy. Prof. Dr. Jędrzejewski besides added that bringing the media closer to the state is well known by the way they are financed.

The participants besides stressed that the assessment of the performance of public media tasks should involve, first and foremost, public opinion, which should be based on an appropriate nonsubjective assessment of the subject. Prof. UW Dr. Kowalski besides pointed out that those who would make changes in the public media would gotta realise the size of the current hate, especially on the network that needs to be opposed. He summed up his statement, saying that much would depend on what would happen after the fall election. As he said, "changes will or will not be."
