The wellness authorities distributed 180 000 iodine tablets among the residents of the city of Buschehr in the south of Iran, where the only atomic power plant in the country is located," reported a local official, quoted by Iran International's independent portal.
These actions have been taken as part of a crisis preparedness plan.
According to the State Young Journalists' Club (YJC), who cited the words of the wellness Deputy at the University of Medical Sciences in Buszehr, the distribution of tablets began before the 12-day war with Israel in June 2025. The decision was taken by the national crisis management headquarters.
At first, the tablets were distributed at the atomic power plant and then expanded to the full city.
