Iran/ AP: Air attack on erstwhile US embassy in Tehran

The air strike that occurred this morning in Iran's capital, Tehran, was aimed at the erstwhile U.S. embassy," said the AP agency, stressing that there is presently an anti-American museum in the building.

Since 1979, the embassy has been under the control of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard, and the complex has been managed by a volunteer Basij formation.

In November 1979, after the overthrow of Reza Pahlawi's chess, respective 100 Iranian students entered the U.S. embassy and took all those in the diplomatic facility as hostages. They were imprisoned for 444 days, until January 1981, erstwhile US president Ronald Reagan took office after Jimmy Carter.
