"Invictus Games" is an global sporting event that provides support for soldiers and veterans injured during service. The games initiated by Prince Sussex, Harry, are a platform for integration, rehabilitation and exchange of experience between participants. The participation of Polish representation in the Games coordinates the Veteran Centre. Another edition of the event will be held on 8–16 February 2025 in Canada.
"Invictus Games" is not only a sporting competition, but above all a community that collectively seeks to recover and build character strength in the spirit of "invictus" – invincible. The initiative was based on soldiers and war veterans who suffered during the mission. The first edition was held in London in 2014, and since then the games have become a global symbol of rehabilitation and spirit strength, offering competition in disciplines specified as wheelchair basketball or rowing on an ergometer. The name of the event, meaning "undefeated", highlights the invincible nature of the participants.
About the past of games and successes of Polish veterans
Since its first edition in London in 2014, the Invictus Games have become a global event, hosting successively in Orlando, Toronto, Sydney, The Hague and Düsseldorf. The inspiration for their creation was the American Warrior Games tournament. The Polish squad – squad Invictus Poland – debuted at the 2018 Sydney Championships and has since won respective twelve medals, including 15 in Düsseldorf in 2023. The achievements of Polish veterans, both in squad competition and individual competition, emphasize their determination and will to fight, exceeding physical and intellectual barriers.
Why are we participating in Invictus Games?
Sport plays a key function in veteran rehabilitation. As the Colonel Dr. Katarzyna Rałędowska, manager of the Veteran Center, Invictus Games is not only a competition but a therapy
and motivation that helps participants overcome constraints. Polish preparations are not only physical training, but besides the integration of a squad that lives and works in different parts of the country.
