International Roma Day

On 8 April, the global Roma Day is celebrated. On this occasion scientists from the Center for Migration investigation at the University of Warsaw encourage you to read the latest publications on various aspects of Ukrainian Roma experience in Poland and Ukraine.

Scientists and scientists from the University of Warsaw have been researching migrations of Roma cultural minorities for years. Since 2024, the squad of the Centre for Migration investigation (OBM), composed of researchers and researchers of Roma and non-Romans, focuses on the survey of exile experience among Ukrainian Roma, a group peculiarly susceptible among people with temporary protection in Poland.

On the occasion of 8 April of the global Roma Day, researchers from OBM University on the blog of the European University of Viadrina Entanglements. Polish and Ukrainian Studies (https://entanglements.hypotheses.org/) published popularist texts on various aspects of Ukrainian Roma experiences in Poland and Ukraine. The authors of the publication are: Dr Kamila Fialkowska, Dr Elżbieta Mirga-Wójtowicz and Dr Ignacy Jóźwiak.

In texts, scientists take on topics developed by the Polish-Ukrainian, Roma-Neromian squad of the ROCIT project.

  • ROCIT squad manager Dr. Kamila Fialkowska focuses on the issue of Roma perception by majority societies as invariably alien, making them unwelcomely seen as forced migrants, and their exile is being questioned and questioned (https://entanglements.hyposes.org/6550).
  • Dr. Elżbieta Mirga-Wójtowicz, on the another hand, examines the issues of neutrality and the relation between integration policies and everyday life, pointing to differences between the objectives of the programmes and their applicable functioning and stressing the importance of local contexts (https://entanglements.hypotheses.org/6479).
  • Dr. Ignacy Jóżwiak takes up the subject of the origin and emancipation possible in the evangelical charismatic communities considered by the prism of the concept of citizenship (https://entanglements.hypotheses.org/6620).

The movie is an crucial addition to the themes discussed in the lyrics of the team, giving the voice to the Ukrainian Roma and their experiences during the ongoing war. Production is coming to an end, and the premiere is planned in the close future.
