COLABORATION IN THE JAGIELLON UNION
"Wprost": scientists from the Jagiellonian University collaborated with Germany.
Rector of the Jagiellonian University: we are considering a suit against “Wprost”. IPN: We'll investigate.
The IPN will examine whether scientists from the Jagiellonian University collaborated with the Nazis during the war. We wrote about it and the article The Institute of Collaboration. -Sustains what I wrote – says Sławomir Sieradzki, author of the article.
The Rector of the Jagiellonian University, who had previously denied our claims, applied to the IPN.
"The president of the IPN prof. Leon Kieres will set up a peculiar working squad at the Institute, composed of historians and archivists, to explain all the circumstances related to the activities of the German Institute of east Labour. The squad will examine all available Polish and abroad sources concerning the activities of this institution," the IPN reported.
The decision to establish the Kieres squad was made at the request of the Rector of the Jagiellonian University Prof. Franciszek Ziejka, who asked that the IPN examine the activities of the Jagiellonian University professors, who were employed at the German Institute of east Labour during the occupation, and referred besides to those placed in the weekly magazine "Wprost".
At the end of March, the Rector of the Jagiellonian University demanded a correction and apology from the weekly "Wprost", which in the article entitled "The Institute of Co-operation" claimed that any scientists from the Jagiellonian University were collaborators of Nazis. "The University's good name has been violated. In my letter to the editor-in-chief +Wprost+, I asked for the correction and apology of surviving scientists and families of those who are already dead. If the editorial office of the weekly does not take a position, after examining all the papers we will consider bringing the suit to court" - said Prof. Ziejek.
