Republic of She noted that the outbreak of the war in Ukraine found Poland almost without supplies of 155 mm artillery ammunition, which counted in respective 1000 pieces. Since then, on the occasion of buying a cannonhaubic K9 in South Korea, Poland has placed an order for 100 to 200 1000 specified missiles. The price of ammunition was not disclosed as only the full acquisition cost was publically provided.
Budget exhausted
In December 2023 the Armed Forces Agency in the Polish Armed Forces Group placed an order for 283,000 missiles, which cost almost 11 billion PLN. The deliveries are to be made by 2029.
This order was made under the National Ammunition Reserve and practically exhausted its budget – read in Republic of. As the diary adds, nearly 0.5 million missiles are ordered, but according to the message of politicians, there was to be at least a million of them. The Defence Ministry has just announced an inspection at the Armed Forces Agency regarding the acquisition of ammunition. The military is presently restricted in ordering 155 mm artillery ammunition, as the deficiency of political decision on the National Ammunition Reserve presently prevents the acquisition of more missiles.
MON has resigned supply
Poland could have more ammunition, but the Ministry of National Defence last year gave up additional supplies, arguing that the order is not in the interest of the Armed Forces of Poland. According to Captain Paweł Kłosowski of the Armed Forces Agency, the MON assessment referred to the form of the acquisition of ammunition, in connection with the entry of Resolution 43 of the Council of Ministers of 29 March 2023 concerning the creation of the National Ammunition Reserve.
MON itself ensures that large-caliber ammunition is further acquired and stresses that continuity and safety of supply are 1 of its priorities. In addition, the Ministry expresses its support for the improvement of the Polish defence manufacture in this field.
