One crucial reason why Karol Nawrocki won the presidential election was the "dirty campaign" led against him by his rival Rafał Trzaskowski," writes German historian Felix Ackermann in an analysis published on Tuesday, June 10, in the paper "Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung" ("FAZ").
"Frontal attack" strengthened solidarity with Nawrock
The author recalled that the pillar of the Trzask run was information about Nawrocki's relationships with violent football fans, the scandal with unfair acquisition of real estate, as well as contacts with the Gdańsk underworld. The "Frontal attack" not only did not compromise the opposition candidate, but even strengthened solidarity with him," the author says.
Ackermann presented the Nawrocki environment, its working origin and sports successes extensively, drawing attention to the differences between him and the "traditional intelligent family" Rafał Trzaskowski.
Class background decided on the result
The difference of origin of the class candidates was, according to Ackermann, the "structural reason" for the defeat of the candidate of the Civic Coalition. Nawrocki was received by voters, not only by PiS supporters, like "the boy from the neighborhood". The stronger the attacks, the stronger the conviction that "he is 1 of us" became.
German historian positively assessed Nawrock's technological achievements. His doctorate considered "the serious technological conflict against the planet of his childhood in communist Poland". The book did not spark academic debate, but is in his opinion "far from the historical-political 'propagand writings' published after the Law and Justices reached power".
Ackermann besides praises Nawrocki's commercial books, including publications on football and organised crime.
Faithful Service of the Law and Justice
The author recalled that Nawrocki had early “started his service” to the Law and Justice. In 2017, "he jumped to the post" erstwhile the Ministry of Culture expelled the manager of the planet War II museum (Pawła Machcewicza - ed.). In this position, Nawrocki – as we read – sharpened his profile as a extremist defender of Poland's history, "in which the position of the victim and hero are always considered together". He besides participated in building the story of "soldiers cursed." As the president of the IPN, since 2021 he has moved the "more to the right" debate on history.
Nawrocki's political career is proof that the Polish right systematically takes over the practices utilized by the American MEGA movement. "Nawrocki is not a Polish Trump, but a Gdańsk variant of U.S. Vice president J.D. Vance," writes Ackermann pointing out that during the election evening the candidate quoted from the Old Testament.
Nawrocki and Vance combine, according to the author, "social promotion, radicalization on behalf of Jesus Christ and political success". As in America, attempts to delegate through shame made by the political opponent only strengthened the communicative of Polish past as "the fight of good against evil". The fresh political kind has nothing to do with the conservative Roman-Catholic piety of the 1980s. – reserves the conclusion of Ackermann.
