Indonesia headed by a peace mission in Gaza: Jakarta's participation in the Peace Council

Following the ceasefire between Israel and Hamas of 10 October 2025, the parties to the conflict initially agreed to the Trump-proposed peace plan in which the Council of Peace is to act as the main platform. This body was appointed to oversee the post-war stabilisation and reconstruction of the Gaza Strip. However, the initiative has been controversial from the outset, mainly due to the unclear mandate and the marginalisation of Palestinian representation. Despite this, Indonesia joined the organization and rapidly became 1 of its most active participants, giving way in terms of engagement only to the United States. On 22 January 2026, president Prabowo Subianto took part in the inaugural BoP meeting, during which he signed the organisation's charter, declaring Indonesia's support for the goal of achieving lasting peace in Gaza.
