BENGALURU- India’s largest carrier, IndiGo Airlines (6E), has announced a major realignment of its domestic and international routes for Summer 2025. The airline’s summer schedule will have major changes from Metro City Airports. This includes a mix of expansions and reductions across some of the country’s busiest airports.

IndiGo Summer 2025 Network Updates

India’s aviation market is witnessing unprecedented growth. The growth continues with airports in Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Chennai, and Kolkata playing crucial roles in domestic and international connectivity.

Bengaluru emerges as the biggest winner in terms of route expansions. Let’s take a closer look at the airport-wise changes.

Bengaluru Airport

Kempegowda International Airport (BLR) is the third busiest airport in India, after Delhi and Mumbai, handling over 40 million passengers in CY2024. Bengaluru airport is set to gain the most additions by IndiGo in the summer schedule.

As the IT and startup capital of India, Bengaluru’s air traffic has seen double-digit growth, fueled by rising business travel, tourism, and international connectivity.

IndiGo is significantly scaling up operations from Bengaluru, adding multiple frequencies on key routes:

  • More connectivity to South India with additional flights to Madurai (5 daily) +1 daily, Thiruvananthapuram (4 daily) +1 daily, Trichy (4 daily) +1 daily, and Kozhikode (3 daily) +1 daily.
  • Expanded metro links with Ahmedabad increasing to 6 daily flights + 3 weekly services and Pune rising to 8 daily flights from 7 daily now.
  • Increased domestic coverage with more flights to Patna, Ranchi, Goa-Dabolim, Dehradun, and Coimbatore.

Service Reductions:

  • Chennai frequency reduced from 11 to 9 daily flights.
  • Hyderabad frequency reduced from 12 to 11 daily flights.

This expansion strengthens Bengaluru’s position as a key domestic hub while also enhancing connectivity for international travelers transiting through the city.

Hyderabad Airport

Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (HYD) is India’s fourth busiest airport, handling over 25 million passengers in CY2024. Hyderabd airport gains more domestic flights in this summer schedule.

As a growing IT and pharmaceutical hub, Hyderabad has witnessed steady air traffic growth, particularly in domestic travel.

For Summer 2025, IndiGo is focusing on increasing domestic connectivity, with additional flights on these key routes:

  • Metro connectivity boost with Ahmedabad services increasing to 6 daily + 3 weekly flights.
  • Higher frequencies to Tier-2 cities like Bhopal (3 daily) +1 daily, Coimbatore (6 daily) +2 daily, and Pune (5 daily) +1 daily.
  • Additional flights to regional destinations, including Jagdalpur, Jabalpur, Dehradun, and Chandigarh.
Service Reductions:
  • Chennai frequency reduced from 12 to 10 daily flights.
  • Bengaluru frequency reduced from 12 to 11 daily flights.
  • Kolkata frequency reduced from 7 to 6 daily flights.

This expansion will significantly improve one-stop connectivity between Hyderabad and North & Central India, aligning with growing passenger demand.

Chennai Airport

Chennai International Airport (MAA) is among India’s top five busiest airports, with over 22 million annual passengers handled in CY2024. Known for its strong Southeast Asian and Middle Eastern connectivity, Chennai is a key gateway for travelers flying to Singapore, Malaysia, and the Gulf.

IndiGo’s Summer 2025 adjustments for Chennai include:

New Additions:
  • The airline will resume daily flights to Kuwait City, expanding Chennai’s Middle East network.
  • More domestic options, including a third daily Kozhikode service (+1 daily) and increased flights to Tuticorin and Ahmedabad.
  • Route shifts: Some Goa flights will move from Dabolim to Mopa Airport for better connectivity.
Service Reductions:
  • Chennai will lose 14 weekly flights to Bengaluru, alongside reductions on Hyderabad, Port Blair, and Jaipur routes.

While Chennai gains some key international and regional routes, it sees one of the largest reductions in metro-to-metro connectivity, especially to Bengaluru.

Kolkata Airport

Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose International Airport (CCU) is Eastern India’s busiest airport, handling over 20 million passengers in CY2024. It serves as a critical gateway to the Northeast, Bangladesh, and Southeast Asia.

For the summer schedule of IndiGo, there are a mix of gains and losses for Eastern India’s busiest airport. IndiGo’s Summer 2025 changes for Kolkata airport include:

New Additions:
  • A sixth daily flight to Agartala, reinforcing connectivity to the Northeast.
  • Additional weekly services to Itanagar and Ahmedabad.
  • Route shifts, moving Goa flights from Mopa to Dabolim Airport.
Service Reductions:
  • Kolkata sees some major cuts, with weekly flights to Hyderabad, Indore, Jaipur, and Patna being removed.
  • Reduced international presence as IndiGo cuts four weekly Bangkok flights. The overall frequency is reduced to 7x weekly (daily) from 11x weekly earlier.

Despite these changes, Kolkata continues to remain the dominant hub for Northeast India, and IndiGo’s minor expansions maintain steady growth.

International Expansions

IndiGo is making significant international network enhancements for Summer 2025, including the launch of two brand-new international destinations. The airline will achieve a remarkable feat in this summer. IndiGo will now be connected to 40 international destinations.

The airline expanded its network from 33 international destinations to 40 as IndiGo added 7 new routes since winter season 2024. IndiGo as of today connects to 38 international destinations. The two new destinations are:

  • Seychelles from Mumbai. IndiGo’s 39th international destination. IndiGo will fly 4 times a week between Mumbai and the Seychelles starting from 22nd March 2025.
  • IndiGo will also fly to Krabi daily from Mumbai and Bengaluru. Flights to Mumbai will commence on 23rd March 2025. While the flights from Bengaluru will commence from 30th March 2025.

Additionally, IndiGo is adding several other international flights from various other Indian airports.

  • IndiGo will add a daily service between Tiruchirappalli and Jaffna. With this new flight, IndiGo is expanding its regional South Asian presence.
  • The airline will also resume its daily Chennai-Kuwait flights, reinforcing its Gulf connectivity. The airline last operated on this sector until summer schedule 2024.
  • IndiGo will also add a second daily Mumbai-Dammam service.

Meanwhile, Mumbai-Kuwait and Hyderabad-Kuwait services will be reduced from daily to 3x and 4x weekly, respectively. The capacity will be deployed to Chennai instead in the summer schedule 2025.

IndiGo now connects to 40 international destinations. The airline has kept up with its announcement of adding 7 new destinations by the summer 2025 schedule.

This in no way means IndiGo has limited itself to those 7 odd destinations only. The way the airline has been expanding, we may expect more such unique connections in the coming months.
