IndiGo International Routes
Bengaluru Airport (BLR) emerged as the primary expansion hub, securing 92 weekly international flights. The city now connects to diverse destinations including Phuket, Denpasar, Abu Dhabi, Jeddah, Mauritius, Langkawi, and Kuala Lumpur.
Chennai Airport (MAA) followed as the second busiest expansion point with 42 weekly flights, establishing routes to Bangkok, Jaffna, and Penang.
The expansion timeline shows two distinct phases:
- First Half 2024: 8 city pairs launched
- Second Half 2024: 16 additional city pairs introduced
New destinations in IndiGo’s network include:
- Southeast Asian markets: Langkawi, Penang, Denpasar (Bali)
- Island destinations: Mauritius, Jaffna
- Middle Eastern cities: Multiple connections to Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Jeddah
The airline introduced regional international operations with ATR72 aircraft on the Chennai-Jaffna route, marking its first international turboprop service. Flight schedules indicate consistent use of A320 family aircraft across most routes, with flight frequencies ranging from 2 to 7 weekly services per city pair.
Looking ahead, IndiGo plans to expand further with services to Bishkek scheduled for February 2025.
The airline’s network map reveals strong connectivity patterns linking major Indian cities to key business and leisure destinations across Asia, with particular density in the Southeast Asian and Middle Eastern corridors.
This expansion surpasses Air India Express’s (IX) growth, which added 22 city pairs during the same period.
