GURUGRAM- IndiGo (6E) has begun construction of a new large-scale Maintenance, Repair, and Overhaul (MRO) facility at Kempegowda International Airport (BLR), Bengaluru.
The project aims to boost the airline’s operational capabilities and deepen its presence in one of the busiest hubs.
This strategic expansion is part of IndiGo’s long-term vision to build a robust aviation ecosystem in India, while also supporting job creation and industry growth. The MRO is expected to be fully operational by 2028.

Indigo Airlines’ new MRO facility at Bengaluru Airport will span 31 acres and is designed to accommodate up to 12 bays.
It will service both narrow-body and wide-body aircraft, significantly improving IndiGo’s technical infrastructure. This move aligns with the airline’s operational strategy to enhance fleet availability, reduce maintenance turnaround time, and improve cost efficiency.
Currently, IndiGo operates MRO facilities in Delhi and Nagpur. However, the upcoming Bengaluru facility is projected to be three times larger than the combined capacity of the existing units.
The project not only aims to improve operational efficiency but also contributes to the regional economy. The facility is expected to generate employment for over 1,000 professionals, including engineers and technicians.

Bengaluru is one of IndiGo’s largest operational bases, with more than 200 daily flights.
The new MRO facility will allow IndiGo to streamline its maintenance processes within a high-traffic zone, ensuring quicker aircraft turnaround and enhanced reliability.

With a fleet of over 400 aircraft, timely maintenance and servicing are critical. The Bengaluru MRO will play an important role in supporting IndiGo’s rapid fleet expansion while enhancing safety and reliability standards.

The ceremony was attended by key industry and government figures, including Karnataka’s Commissioner for Industries, Gunjan Krishna, IndiGo CEO Pieter Elbers, and BIAL CEO Hari Marar.
The facility marks a significant milestone in public-private collaboration aimed at strengthening Karnataka’s growing aerospace and defense ecosystem.
The MoU for land allocation between IndiGo and Bangalore International Airport Ltd. (BIAL) was signed in May. This partnership highlights the mutual commitment to advancing India’s aviation infrastructure.
