According to Reuters, India is considering the work to permanently include GPS in all iPhones sold in the country.

The fresh rules would prevent users from excluding locations. The government argues that the data from cell telephone transmitters is besides vague and the service needs accuracy for the subway.

GPS is usually activated only erstwhile circumstantial applications request access to a location or erstwhile an emergency call occurs. COAI besides asked the government to require smartphone manufacturers to disable pop-up notifications that inform users erstwhile an operator tries to access location information.

Apple formally opposed this proposal. In a letter sent in July by the Indian Cell and Electronic Association (ICEA), which represents Apple and Google, companies warned the government that forcing GPS to stay active at all times would be a regulatory overshoot.

The discussion comes shortly after, how India withdrew from the thought of a mandatory installation of a government application on all smartphones.
