The AMCA program, previously referred to simply as MCA (Medium Combat Aircraft), first came to light in 2010. This was an alternate to the FGFA programme, the planned future fighter program for India created jointly with Russia. The FGFA was to build on the Russian experience of the PAK FA program, from which it yet evolved a multitasking aircraft of the 5th Generation Su-57. In Indian FGFA's mind, it is besides based on the work of local engineers from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL).
