At least 9 people were killed and 15 were imprisoned as a consequence of the collapse of a tunnel built in the northeast of India – present the rescue services of the State of Sikkim passed. The tunnel leads under the Teesti River and is part of a built water power station.
"We estimation that there were about 25 people in the tunnel," said the head of the state rescue service Rajiv Roka, quoted by the AFP.
The crash happened on Monday. Its origin is unknown, although local authorities fishy that there may have been an detonation of methane – the paper portal “Hindustan Times” provided. According to the authorities, the detonation may have occurred during attempts to release a gas that accumulated about 1.5 km from the entrance.
According to officials, methane is inactive extracted from underground formations and impedes rescue action. The crews must work with oxygen equipment.
