At least 21 people died on Wednesday in a restaurant fire of 1 of the hotels in the capital city of India, Delhi," reported local police, as quoted by AFP. At least a fewer wounded, including foreigners, are besides known. The incidental occurred in Malwia Nagar district, in the confederate part of the city.
According to witness reports cited by local media, including the Indian Express portal, the fire at the low-budget Flourish Stay hotel spread at advanced speed. More than 40 people were evacuated from the building.
Firefighters put out the fire. The origin of the tragedy is being determined.
Eight fire brigades, supported by local residents, participated in a rescue operation in a densely built and populated part of the city.
According to the local media that the AP quotes, foreigners affected by the tragedy are mostly people who went to India for treatment. The Indian PTI agency, as quoted by dpa, reported that among the victims were citizens of the countries of Central Asia and Africa.
Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, as well as representatives of local authorities, expressed their condolences to the close victims. The head of government announced that the families of the victims would receive financial assistance of nearly $2.1 1000 equivalent.
