At issue is India's program to acquisition a Generation 4+ multi-role fighter aircraft, the Multi-Role Fighter Aircraft (MRFA), besides known as MMRCA 2.0. The erstwhile program, known simply as MMRCA (Medium Multi-Role Combat Aircraft), besides won the Rafale in 2012, but due to a deficiency of agreements on method cooperation, fresh Delhi decided to get only 36 of these aircraft alternatively of 126.
