Why is this important?
Norwegian F-35 pilots rapidly located and identified Russian aircraft, keeping safe distance, allowing them to closely monitor their movements. NATO reported that the advanced capabilities of the F-35 allowed them to gather crucial information and make certain that Russian aircraft did not breach the airspace of the North Atlantic Alliance.
What did the Norwegian military say?
"Our fast Reaction Alert mission in the Arctic is crucial to our national defence and NATO collective security. The ability to respond rapidly ensures the safety of our airspace and underlines the strength of our allied forces in maintaining peace and stability," said Major General Oeivind Gunnerud, commander of the Norwegian Air Force.
