Piotr and Katarzyna are severely disadvantaged by fate, with crucial degrees of disability and dependency. It is not known why the kind of benefit for the disabled depends on the age of disability acquisition. Blind from the age of 17, it is simply a social pension or the old care benefit. The most drastic situation is in the care benefit (old). The regulations state that disability must mostly arise before the age of majority (exceptions for education). However, in 2014 the Constitutional Tribunal ruled that this is inconsistent with the Constitution of the Republic of Poland - there is no justification for the old care benefit not to be received by a blind individual from the age of thirty. According to the fresh rules, Piotr and Katarzyna can apply for a support benefit - its construction ignores the date of disability onset, but the majority of benefits are paid in the "old" strategy based on, among others, pensions and care benefits.
