Outside the continent there are besides "outermost regions" of Europe, which include 9 regions of the associate States of the European Union. Despite the considerable distance between these places and continental Europe, the law of the European Union applies to these places - with any exceptions. These regions form an integral part of the European Union. The point is:
Canary Islands (part of Spain);
Azores and Madeira (part of Portugal);
French overseas departments - French Guiana, Guadeloupe, Mayotte, Martinique, Reunion and Saint-Martin.
Europe besides includes the dependent territories of individual countries, which have greater distinctness and autonomy - e.g. they may have separate currencies or entry rules. Europe's dependent territories include:
Faroe Islands (Denmark);
Greenland (Denmark);
the Åland Islands (Finland);
Gibraltar (UK);
Guernsey (UK);
Jersey (UK);
Isle of Man (UK).
