Iga Christmas most likely advanced to the quarterfinals of the WTA 1000 tournament in Rome. Polka defeated Naomi Osaka 6:2, 6:1.
It was the 4th Christmas match with Osaka and the 3rd Rasian victory. For fans, the fact that the nipponese coach is Tomasz Wiktorowski, a erstwhile trainer of the leader of Polish tennis remains an additional treat.
This time, however, the excitement was much little than during a memorable match at the French Open 2024, erstwhile Christmas reversed the destiny of the gathering despite defending the match ball. In Rome, Polka imposed her own playing conditions from the beginning. She rapidly broke her rival, and aggressive and assured tennis allowed her to completely control the course of the match. The gathering lasted little than an hr and a half.
"I was certain of my game," she said after the meeting.
The tournament in Rome was already won 3 times — in 2021, 2022 and 2024. In Wednesday's semi-final game, she will face the American Jessica Pegula.
