The problem in Poland with the discussion of Ukraine's "acceptance to NATO" is that the majority of participants treat NATO as an egalitarian club centered around common aspirations, alternatively than an alliance, or a tool of a hard, global policy — shaping spheres of influence (which supposedly do not exist) and then managing them. This leads to deep misunderstandings. For example, to believe that Poland and another countries of the region were admitted to NATO primarily due to "common values" or that the continuation of the "open door policy" is simply a moral work and results from common values.
In fact, Poland and another countries of Central and east Europe were admitted to NATO due to the fact that the USA and Western countries at the time, according to the calculation of their elites at the time, were profitable. For the same reasons they do not propose — these Western elites — to open negotiations now, and in the future membership of the alliance of Ukraine. due to the fact that according to the current calculations of their elites, it's not worth proposing.

— Krzysztof Bosak (@krzysztofbosak) February 16, 2025This is by no means a fresh component introduced into US policy by the Trump administration. Biden's administration had the same approach, so Zelenski could not even make symbolic and non-binding promises in this regard.
In Poland, this has passed poorly noticed, due to the fact that "supporting the western aspirations of Ukraine" was treated as a dogma, and questioning it like heresy. It created a misconception that everywhere is similar.
Almost no 1 in the mainstream has attempted to look closer at the real content of the statements and decisions of key leaders of Western countries. No 1 wanted to question a dogma, whose “compatibility with the Polish state” was besides treated dogmaically. That is why present is an embarrassing situation in which crucial politicians talk about "changing the U.S. position", which unwittingly demonstrates their deficiency of information on the key elements of our most crucial ally's regional policy.
How can you effectively represent your own state's right if not only you don't realize what key partners do, but you just don't know it until they make a vulgarly clear message ("uncle Sucker") or spoil the atmosphere at closed events (Vance on MSC)?
What we request in Poland to participate consciously and personally in the debate and global game is to full realize the background of decisions that concern us and our region: what pays off, where conflicting vectors of different interests are going, and, most importantly, whether and how we can reverse them and balance them, in accordance with our interests.
