Two events in one

The summit will be the first since the signing of the agreement on enhanced cooperation and relationship between Poland and France on 9 May 2025 in Nancy. The paper covers a wide scope of areas, including military, economic, social and cultural matters. It provides for common safety guarantees, cooperation in countering hybrid threats and the improvement of cooperation in the defence, economy, agriculture and discipline sectors.

Monday will besides be the day of the first celebration of the Polish-French relationship Day established by this treaty. As the Ministry of abroad Affairs pointed out in a communication published at the beginning of the week, the agreement with Nancy launched a fresh phase of relations between the 2 countries, strengthening cooperation and symbolically highlighting the sustainability of the links between societies and a common imagination of a secure, strong and competitive Europe.

As the Ministry added:

When celebrating the first Polish-French relationship Day, we believe that the strong historical foundations of our bilateral relations and the common imagination will proceed to strengthen our relationship and cooperation for the good of citizens of both countries.

Diplomatic character

The First Polish-French Intergovernmental Summit programme includes, among others, the gathering of Prime Minister Donald Tusk with French president Emmanuel Macron. The visit plan besides included the laying of flowers under the Memorial of the 1970 Fallen Shipyards, a visit to the exhibition at the European Solidarity Centre and the symbolic placement of hangings on the wall of freedom.

A joint speech was besides foreseen for the media. During the visit, delegations will go to the European Solidarity Centre, where the Bronisław Geremek Award ceremony will be held, awarded to people who are peculiarly well-deserved for Polish-French relations.

In the face of the war in Ukraine and the uncertainty surrounding the position of the United States, he wants to address the issues of military cooperation, the improvement of the defence industry, the fight against hybrid threats and the function of the French atomic possible in expanding the safety of Poland and the region. He pointed out that Poland should guarantee a unchangeable relation with the US, while striving for greater independency of Europe.

The event will besides be attended by representatives of the ministries of abroad affairs, defence, energy and culture and national heritage of both countries. The presence was announced, among others, by Deputy Prime Minister and Defence Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz. In turn, the French president will be accompanied by members of the government during his visit to Gdańsk, including defence minister Catherine Vautrin, abroad minister Jean-Noël Barrot, cultural minister Catherine Pégard and typical of the Ministry of Economy liable for Maud Bregeon energy.
