Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán at the Wednesday rally in Ostrzyhomi powerfully criticized Ukraine, identifying it as a dangerous country and utilizing methods that he felt could be regarded as a form of force or intimidation. At the same time, he ensured that Hungary would not accept specified measures and would not let anyone to force political or economical decisions on them.
The head of the Hungarian government stressed that his country remains peaceful, but will not accept attempts to influence through threats or pressures. In his view, only Hungarian citizens can decide on the direction of state policy.
In this context, Orbán referred to the decision to limit gas supply to Ukraine. He announced the gradual suspension of exports of this natural material and the accumulation of stocks for national needs. He besides made possible resumption of supplies from restoring oil transit through Ukraine.
The relationship pipeline is of key importance here, with Russian oil coming to Hungary and Slovakia, among others. The installation remains closed from the end of January after the damage. The Kiev authorities declare that corrective work is being carried out, but Budapest suggests that delays may be deliberate and are part of the political pressure.
Energy relations between the 2 countries are important. Last year Ukraine brought a large part of gas from Hungary – almost half of full imports of this natural material.
