The Australian Financial Review (30.9 – 2.10.2005) erstwhile published – in the section “Travel” ! – a study entitled “New year authors as Uman sheds its old skin”. This is simply a reprint from The fresh York Times, and the author of the text is Joseph Skibell (below)

Humane

He tells about his journey to Ukraine, which led him to Humania, located about – as Skibell writes – 210 km south of Kiev. The author of this study sought mostly traces of judaic presence in the past, which does not surprise anyone, especially since he himself has something to do with them. Everything would be beautiful if it were not for 1 conviction in this report, recalling the past history: “In 1768, during a rebellion against the rulining Poles, many Uman citizens, including 20,000 Jews, were murdered”. The conviction quoted here contains any nonsense. First of all, in 1667 Moscow and Kiev, Siewierszów and Smolensk were dismissed by a truce in Andrushów. Jan Kazimierz recovered Polish Infanty, Połockie and Witebskie voivodship, but without Wieliż. This disastrous arrangement was mostly due to the confusion caused by the civilian war in the Republic and the invasion of Swedes. It besides marked the demolition of Ukraine, and thus lost the chance to make the Republic of the 3 Nations. The Treaty of Andrusz was temporary, but in 1686 a perpetual peace was signed in the Kremlin, which was granted to the tsars forever. King John renounced Kiev, Chernihov, Drohobuz, Smolensk, Starodub, Zaporozh, Kudaku, and the land “from Sićze in the top of Dnieper, to the mouth of the River Taśmine which falls into Dniepr”. The Republic left any areas on the right bank of Dnieper. Humań lay in areas that were lost only in the first partition, but for a long time there was a state as if two-powers: the Moscow troops ruled there without shame. And since 1704, since the Treaty in Narva, which granted Russia the right to bring its troops to the lands of the Republic, which in practice abolished the east border, and following the Tsar's army was the Tsar's power. This, therefore, had a profound effect on the improvement of events, including those described here.

Secondly, this rebellion of 1768 is simply a spur of the Bar Confederate Confederates, who dreamt of independency of the Republic challenged the power of Russia and at the same time did not accept the policy of submission applied by King Stasia. There is no request to remind anyone of how the patriots ended up, but it is appropriate to emphasize the methods of the Tsar that were utilized in the fight against Confederates. Against baric insurrection Russia provoked the uprising of the Orthodox people, calling for massacres of Poles and Jews. At the fairs and in the churches, the popes read the release of Catherine’s Tsaric promising blessings to the peasants for clearing the wheat from tares! This meant simply exterminating the Polish nobility, priests and Jews. In order to set fire to these slaughters, the ominous slogan was preached there: “For Lach, Jew, and sobak, it is the religion of religion which is revealed!”... It was indecisive to say that Poles conspire with...mahomeans to destruct the Orthodox people! Popi blessed the intentions of slaughter, knives were consecrated in the churches...And shortly almost all Ukraine was caught in fire. Drunk masses along with the hordes of Cossacks Maxim Żeleźniak and Ivan Gonta murdered Poles and Jews, it is calculated that about 1 100 1000 people died in total, and so if they subtract these 20 1000 lives of the people of Israel, it should be assumed that about 80 1000 Lachs were murdered. But that's a large deal, not a word in J. Skibell's article. It should besides be noted that the number of 20,000 judaic victims in Humania alone is surely greatly exaggerated, but it may affect the remainder of the areas covered by the slaughter. The population of Humania could number at most a fewer 1000 souls, if at that time a city like Vilnius had small more than 20,000 inhabitants. another sources say that 16,000 refugees and locals were killed in Humania, including most likely many thousands of Jews. The perpetrators of the massacre were Cossacks and Orthodox peasants, of course, and these hecatombs were more dangerous to Confederates frequently than clashes with Russian troops, they besides annihilated a haul of possible volunteers. So Konopczyński wrote: "The bar standing drowned in the depths of the hajdamavika." Indeed, it was the Hajdamacs (the Cossacks) who struck hard insurrections, as well as the people of Ukraine, including the Jews on it. The regular Tsaric army then had an easier task in suppressing the barzane movement, although it was said that King Stanislaus was quietly favored by them. And after performing their murderous “mission”, the Russians captured both Cossack leaders – Żeleźniak and Gonta – and then lost. It was crucial to look after appearances before a more crucial proceeding with the Republic of Poland, which was planned to be dismantled.

In the capture of both Cossack commanders, an old catch was utilized – an invitation to the feast. The Russians utilized the same ruse in 1944 in Vilnius inviting the AK commanders to dinner to “thank” them for helping to conquer the city. They're all missing from the commanders. This is how Russian methods with Satan's precision work for centuries.

Thus, the Hekatombo in Humania, presented in the fresh York press, was simply a tragic episode from the time of the Baric Insurrection, not the consequence of the repression of any “resurrection against the Polish governments”. The perpetrators of this crime were Cossacks, but the instigators sat in the palace in St. Petersburg. What a pity that "The Australian Financial Review" reprinted this anti-Polish calumn without examining historical sources.

In Ukraine, not only in 1768 there were akin pogroms of Jews and Lachów, and the perpetrators were Cossacks. In the mid-17th century, during the period of the Chmielnicki Uprising, their sots were cutting down full villages and towns, burning them down. In 1 of the scenes “Fire and Sword,” Prince Jarema says: “A boy! You will take 300 dragoons, a princess, a court, noble families and Jews – you will escort them to Zamość...”. And it was. Sienkiewicz is supported by historians to quote Jasienica here: “In Ukraine, the destiny of Israel has been badly connected with the Lackian. Jews marked themselves as tough arenas..." (T.I., p.418).And the governments of Polish masters did not like Ukrainian peasants who cut both Lachów and Jews during the massacre – as well as during the Niemirów pogrom (1648). And Mr Skibell should be quoted in Jasienica's words: “When Jeremi Wiśniowiecki began a forced retreat from Zadnieprz, behind the banners of Paley, behind the Hussar of Skrzetuski... he dragged a long rolling stock, carrying 500 judaic families and their property...”. Yes, it was Poles who defended Jews in Ukraine from Cossack rage! And the Humanic slaughter was besides the work of the Hajdamaks, from the instigation of Catherine's Tsar, Russia.
