Celebrations of the 80th Anniversary of the Warsaw Uprising in the Polish Aviation Museum in Kraków Here we have wolf teeth, and hats on the baton. Nobody cries in the insurgent Warsaw. This is the heart of Poland, this is Warsaw. There's adequate spirit for us. No applause either. We request ammunition! – the insurgent radio station Lightning reported to the world.

Everyone realized that without external assistance, the Warsaw Uprising would face a non-protected defeat. Therefore, in consequence to the study of General General Tadeusz Bor-Komorowski sent to London on 4 August 1944, in which he categorically demanded after power in the form of arms and ammunition supply, The Allies responded with air support. Heroic flight crews composed of Polish, British, American, Australian, South African and Canadian pilots, with the hazard of life, took part in dropping supplies, weapons and ammunition for the fighting Warsaw.

Under Mount Calvary we fall into a dense fire dam. Anti-aircraft guns firing flat tracks trying to feel our Halifax. [...] The Łuna is constantly growing. Above the city there are low, convex clouds mixed with fires. We're getting to the Vistula. [...] The western wind lifts black biting smoke from the city. They compression into the cabin, limit visibility. Above us are clouds illuminated by fires. We turn left, entering Ujazdowski Avenue. There's a series of coils crossing the plane. Where to look, houses are burning. A poignant, horrendous view..." – Lieutenant Navigator Edward Janik recalled.

RECLAMA

Using comfort and comfort, providing a sense of peace and stability, it is hard to imagine the fear that had to be overcome by airmen taking seats in airplanes making drop-offs over Warsaw. Can we imagine their insecurity and bitterness over the political decisions made by our then allies?
