The American Embassy in Pristina has accused the ruling political organization of undermining Kosovo's stability, reports the AFP agency.
Members of the Vetevendosje (VV) party, led by interim Prime Minister Albin Kurti, prevented the approval of the Serbian List organization by the election authority, voting against registration of the group in the elections on 28 December.
Washington reacted on Wednesday via the Pristina embassy, which stated that the decision to prevent the Serbian organization from participating in the election was “inconsiderate and causing divisions”.
"This undermines the stableness of Kosovo and the interests of the United States," said the embassy in a communication published on Facebook.
The United States has repeatedly expressed concern about the way the Kosovo authorities treat the Serbian number in the north of the country, and this year has suspended high-level meetings due to actions taken by Kurti's government, which, according to Washington, have increased "strengths".
In turn, the European Union imposed sanctions on Kosovo in 2023 following Kurti's steps to abolish the services provided by Belgrade to the Serbs from the northern part of Kosovo's territory.
Kosovo is holding an early election on 28 December. VV organization representatives defended the decision to suspend the Srpska List election registration, citing the close links of this political formation to Belgrade.
