In a weekly interview Paris Match Emmanuel Macron announced that a gathering with Polish Prime Minister Donald Tuski would be held in Nancy on 9 May, during which a treaty on relationship would be signed. The French president defined this agreement as Historical. The fresh Treaty will replace the 1991 agreement, which was considered obsolete, especially after Poland's accession to the European Union.
The paper will be signed in a place of peculiar importance for Polish-French relations – in Nancy, where in 1736, after exile from Poland, the Polish king Stanisław Leszczyński, the father-in-law of Louis XV, settled as the Duke of Lorraine.
It was announced that the fresh treaty with France would be signed until the end of the Polish Presidency in the European Union, which falls during the first half of this year.
Mutual safety guarantees
Prime Minister Donald Tusk late stated that there are many indications that this could be a breakthrough treaty for common safety guarantees. In early April, the Prime Minister of Poland informed that he had an interview with the French president about the Polish-French treaty.

On April 23, the head of the MFA, Radosław Sikorski, expressed hope that the agreement would be signed in the coming weeks.
Poland awarded
The French diplomacy indicated that this would be the first specified agreement that France signs with a country that is not its neighbour.
President Macron added in a Monday interview that on May 7, Friedrich Merz would make his first abroad visit to Paris after taking the office of Chancellor of Germany. Referring to the relation with Warsaw and Berlin, Macron assessed that France consolidate its global action, implementing a strategy for strengthening Europe.
