The event was reported on Thursday on its U.S. National defender website. The publication states that the historical refueling of the Polish F-35A Lightning II fighter took place on 6 March over northern Arkansas.

The National defender stressed that this was the first always refueling the Polish F-35 by an American tanker aircraft. KC-135 Stratotanker took off from Scott Air Force Base in Illinois, while a Polish fighter began a flight from Ebbing Air National defender Base at Fort Smith, Arkansas.
"Polish student pilot expressed pride in being the first Polish pilot of the F-35, who conducted refueling in the air. He besides stressed that the anticipation of doing this with a tanker from Illinois – a state in which many Poles live – was for him an extraordinary experience strengthening the sense of pride of achievement," the message states.
