Historical calendar – the anniversary of the beginning of the communist convention, during which the Polish Workers organization merged with the Polish Socialist Party.
Today, in our calendar, we will look at the last elements of building a communist dictatorship with monoparty in power in Poland.
The physical triumph of the communists over the armed opposition and the peaceful, centered around the PSL did not mean stabilising the situation in the country. It was on the contrary, due to the fact that according to Marxist logic of the revolution, there was a top-down tightening of class struggle. Those of earth’s origin were expelled from the army and offices, and persecution of religion and clergymen began. Meanwhile, as part of the governing party's leadership, the conflict between supporters of Gomulka-like independency and highly faithful Moscow supporters of Bierut has renewed.
His inflammation occurred in mid-1948, erstwhile Gomulka criticized the thought of introducing sanctions against Yugoslavia and collecting Polish villages, modelled on russian solutions. Birut supported all decision by Stalin, so he could number on his support for the removal of his rival. At the KC PPR gathering of 15 August 1948, a resolution was adopted to remove Gomulku from the function of secretary-general of the party.
Later on, the passive accused him of “right-nationalistic deviation” and the introduction of pre-war military intelligence agents, known as pejoratively “doublers”, into the ranks of the parties. Gomulku was transferred to a lower post and in 1951 arrested.
On December 15, 1948, a union convention of PPR and PPS was launched in Warsaw, named by the communists a legislature of unity." The consequence was the Polish United Workers' Party. The legislature was convened under force from PPR activists who sought to make a monopartisan strategy in Poland. The strong PPS was 1 of the last obstacles for them on this road, due to the fact that the folk movement after the escape Stanisława Mikołajczyk It's practically gone.
To bring unity, the communists proclaimed that there should be only 1 organization representing the interests of the working class. They besides stressed the anti-Soviet stance of PPS activists, considered to be incorrect and harmful to the country.
The PPR and PPS Congress, which lasted until 21 December, was held in the Hall in the main building of the Warsaw University of Technology. The ‘unification’ of the organization in practice meant the absorption of socialists by the communists while excluding any activists opposing the process. The first secretary of PZPR was the head of PPR, Bolesław Bierut. He besides announced the formation of a fresh group.
On July 22, 1952, a Stalinist-style constitution was passed. On the basis of this, the institution of the president was liquidated (a collegiate State Council was established in his place) and a fresh name was introduced for the country which has since functioned as the Polish People's Republic (PRL). The Constitution has already sanctioned a previously built socialist strategy and the base of state safety on relationship with the russian Union.
PZPR managed to gain a complete monopoly on state power. She held it indivisibly until 1989, maintaining only appearances of political pluralism in the form of façade People's organization and Democratic Party.
