Hearing before the CJEU on WIBOR. Will there be no breakthrough?

On 11 June 2025, a proceeding will be held in Luxembourg before the Court of Justice of the European Union (CJEU) in case C-471/24. This is the consequence of preliminary questions submitted by the territory Court in Częstochowa concerning the explanation of EU law in the context of loans based on the WIBOR benchmark. The first case in the CJEU concerning WIBOR is of understandable interest to borrowers, lawyers and the banking sector. However, it is worth distinguishing the real scope of this case from media simplifications. The upcoming trial will not bring any decision yet.
