15 years ago, there was a disaster close Smolensk, in which president Lech Kaczyński, his wife Maria Kaczyńska and 94 another people died. The Polish delegation was flying to the 70th anniversary of the Katyn massacre. Many journalists were there, including TVN24 reporter Rafał Poniatowski, who died in May 2021. - The adrenaline was incredible. I remember that I left my shift virtually for a moment, after 36 hours - he recalled on our station. - We drove from Katyn to Smolensk. I was at the site of the disaster. I know what aviation fuel smells like, I saw the remains of the crashed presidential Tupolev. Later, there was a fight for any information - said the reporter.
