Lights on Christmas tree, sadness on faces
In September, we wrote about a unusual political idea. The postponement of the celebration of Christmas was intended to distract society from protests and increasing poverty. As part of Christmas celebrations, the authorities give out packages of food that are frequently dreamed of by starving Venezuelans.
The EFE agency reported that on Tuesday the Mayor of Caracas, Carmen Melendez, presided over a conventional lighting ceremony on a cross standing on a hill in the north of the city. She made the residents want a peaceful and joyful vacation with her family. In turn, the Associated Press agency reported that a Christmas tree was set up in Boliwar Square in downtown Caracas on Monday for Tuesday. In any neighborhoods, workers rushed to assemble decorations, but the atmosphere remained far from the vacation climate.
It should be added that the Venezuelan dictator announced his absurd thought in the atmosphere of accusations of manipulating the results of the presidential election of 28 July. Authorities claim he won Maduro, nevertheless the opposition presented papers that propose that their candidate, Edmundo Gonzalez Urrutia, was victorious.
Arrest warrant Maduro
If that were not enough, on Monday, the Argentine court issued a warrant for the arrest of Maduro and the head of the Venezuelan MMA, Diosdado Cabello, accusing them of being liable for systematic kidnapping, torture and killing.
It has been proven that there is simply a systematic plan in Venezuela for repression, forced disappearances of persons, torture, killings and persecution against part of the civilian population, developed at least from 2014 to the present time – informed Argentine judges.
The decision was taken as a consequence of a complaint lodged in 2023 by the Argentine Forum for Democracy Defence (FADD) for Argentine justice. According to TN TV, the organization has invoked the rule of universal jurisdiction, which allows states to prosecute crimes against humanity, regardless of where they were committed.
