Colonel Krzysztof Mila became the fresh commander of the elite JW GROM. The nomination was received present by Deputy Prime Minister Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, Minister of National Defence. He replaced Colonel Grzegorz Gers, who had commanded the unit for the last 3 years. Colonel Mila has been associated with GROM since the beginning of service in the army.
– Colonel Mila has combat experience from Iraq and Afghanistan, the unit knows from the lining. He will surely proceed the work of his predecessor – comments the staff dir. Paweł “Naval” Mateńczuk, a erstwhile GROM soldier. An officer utilizing the nickname "Komar" to the GROM was placed in 1999. As a freshly-baked postgraduate of the Higher School of Officers, the Mechanized Army passed the selection and then consistently adhered to the service hierarchy. Finally, he became commander of Combat squad A. He trained and collaborated with soldiers of elite units from the United States and large Britain, and performed a number of tasks on abroad missions. For his outstanding bravery in Afghanistan, he was honored with the Order of the Military Cross. Today, he takes over the position after his erstwhile superior – Colonel Grzegorz Gersie (pseudonim “Otter”), who has been at the head of the elite unit for the last 3 years. The outgoing commander in GROM past recorded an equally rich card. He is simply a postgraduate of the Naval Academy, a water expert, with crucial combat experience. All of this will have the chance to usage it in his next position in the peculiar Forces Component Command.

JW GROM is 1 of the most celebrated units of the Polish army. It was formed in July 1990, and its creator and first commander was then Colonel Sławomir Petelicki. GROM soldiers have a number of peculiar operations – risky and demanding. Many stay a mystery, others have seen the light of day. It is known, for example, that during the Second Iraq War, Polish specialists captured the oil terminal KAAOT in the port of Umm Kasr or the water dam Mukarayin, in the Balkans during Operation small Flower captured the war criminal Slavka Dokmanović, called the "Vukovar butcher", while during the mission in Afghanistan they released about 20 hostages, held by the Taliban.
