Harpman’s “Orland” can be tried to interpret in the context of sex performance described by Judith Butler. This is not only encouraged by dialog with queer classics. Eventually, both Orlanda and Aline change throughout the novel, and the first rigid division into male and female blurs. Therefore, the “me”, so frequently challenged and questioned by the characters of the book, cannot be closed in a rigid definition, in which so many of us would like to see them.
